The Alabama Veterinary Medical Association (ALVMA) held its annual Emerald Coast Veterinary Conference from May 28 to June 1, 2025, in Miramar Beach, Florida. The event brought together veterinarians, veterinary professionals, and supporters from across the state for education, networking, and recognition of outstanding contributions to the veterinary field.
ALVMA Awards Highlights
Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Bill Bledsoe (Auburn ’81), Camden
Dr. Bledsoe, owner of Camden Veterinary Clinic, is a former president of the ALVMA and served eight years on the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. He was honored with the Distinguished Service Award for his decades of dedication to veterinary medicine in Alabama.
Veterinarian of the Year
Dr. Frances P. Kendrick (Auburn ’92), Selma
A past president of both the ALVMA and West Alabama VMA, Dr. Kendrick owns Valley Creek Veterinary Hospital in Selma. She received the Veterinarian of the Year Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership and contributions to the veterinary profession.
Lay Person of the Year
Ruth “Darlene” Stewart, Mobile
Renowned for her expertise with Beagles, Stewart serves as a consultant on the breed’s health and genetics. She was recognized as Lay Person of the Year for her instrumental role in establishing the National Beagle Club of America’s Genetics Committee.
