CareCredit embeds financing eligibility into Clarus PIMS to cut checkout friction
The integration connects insurance and financing data in a single workflow inside the Clarus Platform, which integrates with major PIMS.
Synchrony's CareCredit and Clarus Technology are embedding financing eligibility and insurance coverage data into the Clarus Portal that veterinary practices already use. The companies say the collaboration is designed to reduce administrative friction and support higher treatment acceptance by connecting insurance and financing data in a single workflow.
What the integration does
The Clarus Platform integrates with major practice information management systems and according to the release is provided free to veterinary practices. The integration puts insurance and financing data into that portal. Jonathan Wainberg, senior vice president and general manager of pet at CareCredit, said the integration "streamline[s] cost-of-care conversations, reduce[s] payment friction, and improve[s] the client experience."
The release states the collaboration aims "to reduce administrative friction and support higher treatment acceptance rates."
The acceptance bottleneck this targets
The problem the integration addresses is timing. Surfacing financial information earlier in the visit changes which treatment options a veterinarian can lead with. If a practice has financing and insurance data visible before presenting treatment options, the doctor can frame the conversation differently. The integration moves that information upstream from checkout to treatment planning.
What this means for the practice's workflow
For the practice manager, the integration surfaces financing and insurance information in the portal during the visit rather than requiring a separate lookup after the estimate. That changes when cost conversations happen and which clients hear about financing options before they've made a decision.
For the owner-veterinarian, the integration aims to support higher treatment acceptance by making financing data available earlier in the workflow. The effect on acceptance rates will depend on how teams use the information, whether it gets surfaced during treatment planning or only at checkout.
The Clarus Platform connects to major PIMS and according to the release is offered at no cost to veterinary practices. By connecting financing and insurance data into that layer, CareCredit and Clarus are positioning the portal as middleware that sits between the practice and the legacy practice management system. That gives integrations like Clarus leverage they did not have when they only offered scheduling or client communication tools.
The strategic read: if financing and insurance data flow through a third-party portal, the portal becomes harder to remove. Practices that use the integration for treatment conversations may be less likely to switch systems if doing so breaks the workflow. That shifts some power away from legacy practice management vendors and toward the middleware layer.
Our read
The integration addresses a real operational problem, clients who never hear about financing options before they've decided against a procedure. Moving that conversation earlier in the visit is a straightforward fix. Adoption will depend on how practices using Clarus implement the integration, and whether teams use the data during treatment planning rather than only at checkout.
The middleware angle is the longer-term story. If PIMS integrations become the layer where financing, insurance, and client communication all live, the practice management system itself becomes less central to the workflow. We'd watch whether other financing providers follow CareCredit into the same middleware layer, and whether legacy PIMS vendors respond by building their own financing integrations to keep that data in-house.
